Physics 220 Prelab #10

Answer the following questions and submit your answers in the form below:

1. You are given a lens of power 30 diopters.  What is the focal length of this lens?

2. You are given a converging lens and a convex mirror and are asked to find the focal length of the mirror.  The focal length of the lens is 10 cm.   An erect object is placed 30 cm to the left of the lens.  The real image of the lens is formed on a screen a certain distance away from the lens.

    a) Is this image erect or inverted?

The mirror is now inserted in the beam between the lens and the image formed by the lens, and a new real image is formed on a screen which is between the lens and the mirror and 5 cm from the lens.  (See part IV of the lab writeup for a diagram.)  The mirror is 12 cm from the lens.

    b) What is the focal length of the convex mirror?

    c) Is this final image erect or inverted?
