About Learn Anytime Anywhere Physics

On August 26, Vice President Al Gore's office announced $10 million in grants to be provided by the U.S. Department of Education FIPSE Program's "Learning Anytime Anywhere Partnerships" (LAAP), to use technology to expand opportunities for adult learners. Under LAAP, colleges, universities, companies, and non-profit organizations join together to expand access to high-quality learning opportunities that students can access "anytime anywhere." Learn Anytime Anywhere Physics seeks to provide such an opportunity using the World Wide Web.

Under the new program UNC Greensboro in partnership with NC A&T State University, Davidson College, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and webslingerZ, Inc., will receive $1.8 million over the next five years to develop a new distance learning course entitled: "Learn Anytime Anywhere Physics." The LAAP project is a collaborative effort to produce an online laboratory learning environment for introductory college level physics. In this course, the student experiences nearly all of the complexities of a laboratory inquiry-based course such as those found on many campuses in the country where pioneering work in Physics Education Research has been conducted.
