Intensity Plots for Various Modes:
The following experimental set up was used to scan across a transverse mode and record the intensity of the beam as a function of position. To accomplish this, a device that would spread the laser beam out as much as possible was used and the beam was projected on a far wall of the lab. A detector was placed near the wall lined up along a ruler. The detector's initial position was outside of the beam's cross section and the detector was slowly moved by 0.25 cm incremants across the mode. A voltmeter was hooked up to the detector in order to record the intensity of the beam. This experiment was repeated for several different modes and graphs of intensity versus position were generated for each mode.
