COLOR  
  Color is caused by the absorption of wavelengths of light, often due to chemical makeup. Potassium Ferricyanide forms red crystals in the lab. The red color is caused by the iron.

By the same token, iron oxide (rust) is red because of the iron.

 
  Calcium Copper Acetate Monohydrate exhibits a blue color due to the presence of copper and calcium.

Dioptase (a hydrated copper silicate) has a natural blue-green color due to its copper. Seen below.
