Daily 120 HW Problems

2/7  Assignment (due 2/9):

Please answer these two Physlet questions:

Question #1

ratio of  masses: M / m=   Note: keep ratio above .2

Text

A 10 kg mass is attached via a pulley to another variable mass m (position is in meters and time is in seconds). Determine the limits on the acceleration of the small mass on an Atwood's machine by changing the ratio of the masses. Note: the book says that a = (M-m)*g / (M+m). For what values of M/m does this equation give you something interesting?

Question#2

Text

A mass is attached via a string over a pulley to a hand (position is in meters, time is in seconds, and therefore v is in meters/second). Rank the tensions in the string greatest first for the following animations (the masses in each animation are identical).

Start Animation 1 Start Animation 2 Start Animation 3 Start Animation 4

Answer in the form below, a short answer for each is fine.
