Conservation of Angular momentum

A 100 gr. projectile is incident on a tethered mass on a tabletop.  You are viewing this tabletop from above.  Assume only conservative forces are acting.  Determine whether total angular momentum is conserved in each simulation.

Answers

• Angular momentum is conserved in simulation 1 and 2.  Angular momentum changes sign in the second collision in simulation 3.
• In simulation 2 the projectile has twice the mass of the bob.  This can be most easily determined from the change in the linear momentum during the collision.
