Tour of Physlets: Example 3

 

Animator be used to model both physical and non-physical behavior. This Physlet Problem was written by Peter Sheldon to test students' understanding of fluids and buoyant forces.  It shows a wooden block floating between water and oil; the oil is siphoned off. Only one of the three situations shown is physical.
