Thermodynamics 8.12: Additional Problem 1

Set T Left:    Set N Right:

Description

Two identical containers with identical particle types and numbers are placed back to back and separated by a moveable barrier as shown in the animation (volume is in 10-15m3, pressure is in 10-9Pa, and temperature is in Kelvin).  Initially the barrier is in static equilibrium.

Question

If you doubled the number of particles in the right container, what would the temperature of the left container be in order to regain equal volumes?

After a few seconds Set N Right and view the animation. The animation will run for about 15 seconds. Test your results by using Set T Left after you add particles to the right container. Start

Answer

Double the temperature on the left..
