Kinematics Physlet-Based Curriculum

These examples of curricular material appear in Section 8.1. Follow a link on the left to go to the individual Physlet problems found in that section and several bonus problems only available on this CD. Below is a brief description of each animation.

Chapter Problems:

8.1.1: Physicists use arrows to represent many things in diagrams. What vector quantity is being represented by the arrow in this simulation? 8.1.2: A hockey puck bounces off a wall and returns to its original starting point. What is the average speed of the puck during the time it is in motion? 8.1.3:  A red ball undergoes projectile motion. What is the acceleration of the ball?
8.1.4: A red ball undergoes projectile motion. What is the minimum speed of the projectile? 8.1.5: A red ball undergoes projectile motion. What is the speed and velocity of the projectile at t = 3.7 s?  8.1.6: A bowling ball is lifted from rest. Rank the paths by the displacement.
8.1.7: A red ball slides off a table and undergoes an elastic collision with the other table. Where will the red ball land?    

 

Additional Problems:

8.1.ap 1: Two carts start at rest on similar air tracks. At what position will the green cart catch up to the orange cart?  8.1.ap 2: A green monster truck moves to the left. Determine which graph properly represents the position of the truck as a function of time.
